Information relating to the rental of an apartment or chalet

Check that your multi-risk home insurance policy includes a 'holiday rental' clause. This additional guarantee specifically covers damage "caused to a third-party" that could arise to a holiday rental or impact its owner. It is included in most multi-risk home insurance contracts and does not result in additional cost.
To activate it, provide your insurer with the details concerning your holiday rental (address, features and rental period). Within ten days, you will receive a certificate showing that you are insured for your holiday rental.

Check the coverage ceiling for each damage category. In most multi-risk home insurance contracts, the 'holiday' clause covers damage caused to rented properties as well to neighbours during your holiday. It covers damage due to fire, explosion or water outside of your usual place of residence. More comprehensive contracts could cover, for example, theft of personal belongings left in the rented accommodation.

"Holiday rental" clauses are limited to three months. Deductibles, that is, amounts applied by the insurer below which cost of damages to your private property is your responsibility, depend on your contract.

You contract does not have a holiday rental clause?
Ask your insurer for an extension to your guarantee, which should be forthcoming with an extra charge.
